(Updated February 28) Today's Sunday Mirror reports that Sir Paul rushed to the special care baby unit of London's Portland hospital on Friday to remain at the beside of his new grandson when the baby developed breathing problems that required emergency treatment. Stella's 7lb 7oz baby arrived several weeks early. The baby was born at St Johns and St Elizabeth Hospital a private hospital in north London, but both he and his mother were transfered by ambulance to Portland hours after the birth when the complications occured. As of last evening, the baby was reported to be making a full recovery. According to one of Stella's friends:
"Stella is so very, very proud. It was a bit worrying on Friday night when she and baby had to switch hospitals - but everything seems to be fine now."
Another source was quoted in the Irish press as saying:
"Obviously this is Stella's first baby and the whole family was so excited. But the baby came early and it was a bit of tough-and-go there for a while. Luckily Stella had both her dad and husband on hand to help out. In the end it all turned out OK, but everyone was very concerned."
Heather Mills McCartney was seen driving a tired but proud and happy Sir Paul from the Portland Hospital after his bedside vigil. The couple returned for a less stressful hour-long visit with mother and baby yesterday. Although they refused to speak to reporters at the hospital, an onlooker observed, "They looked thrilled to bits."
