This evening, Sir Paul rocked football fans all over the world with a 12-minute performance during half-time at Super Bowl XXXIX at the Alltel Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida. Wearing a black, pinstriped blazer over a bright red long-sleeved t-shirt, Sir Paul and performed a four-song set. He played bass on Drive My Car and Get Back. Then he removed his jacket to play the piano (that rose up from beneath the stage) for Live And Let Die and Hey Jude. Live And Let Die was accompanied by a spectacular fireworks display with fireworks. It was reported that Sir Paul was paid $3.3 million to deliver delivered the clean, family oriented show the National Football League expected of him. During his news conference on Thursday, Sir Paul explained that the NFL did not exercise editorial any control over his performance:
"No, this is a good thing about this show. I was asked to do it and I was really just told how long I had to play. So I just said what I wanted to do and they said, 'OK!'."
