This evening, the students of the Bridge School lined the rear of the stage of the Shoreline Amphitheater to hear Sir Paul and others perform at Neil Young's 18th annual Bridge School Benefit Concert. Sir Paul played for 50 minutes, starting with Beatles tunes - Drive My Car, 'Til There Was You, In Spite of All the Danger, Blackbird, Michelle, Get Back, Lady Madonna, and Yesterday (played on the same guitar he used on the Ed Sullivan show), and Let It Be (with a bit of a lyric change - "let it be Kerry"). Sir Paul also performed his tribute to John Lennon, Here Today, and a cover of Neil Young's Only Love Can Break Your Heart, with Neil Young backing him on vocals and guitar.
Another highlight of the concert was Sir Paul's duet with 78-year-old crooner, Tony Bennett, who introduced Sir Paul saying:
"It's the honor of my life right now to introduce someone who is not only the nicest human being I've ever met but also the greatest musician who ever lived in this world."
Sir Paul and Mr. Bennett sang The Very Thought of You, the Tony Bennett tune Sir Paul used for the first dance at his wedding to Heather Mills. This time, for fun, Sir Paul shared a brief waltz and a chaste kiss on stage with Tony Bennett during the musical interlude. As he left the stage, Sir Paul looked back at the audience and said (in a childlike singsong voice), "I got to sing with Tony Bennett."
The evening ended at 1:00 a.m. with all the artists joining Sir Paul on-stage to sing Hey Jude.
