The Daily Telegraph reports today that Stella McCartney will be creating a line of everyday sportwear for Adidas. Stella says that she has worked with a variety of athletes to bring dignity and design to clothing created for high-tech performance in running, swimming and working out in the gym. Stella told reporters:
"Go into sports shops and most of the stuff available looks like My Little Pony on heat. It's all baby pink, candy-floss, baby blue, head-to-toe. What grown-up woman wants to look like an 80s teenager? I find it degrading. It's so inappropriate. Women deserve to look good and feel good when they're working out. They don't want to look like pastel Barbies."
Adidas said their partnership with Stella is long-term and there are plans to create outfits for other sports. According to Bill Sweeney, the project leader at the Adidas sports performance division:
"We combined Stella's unique design and insight into women with Adidas's knowledge in creating breakthrough functional sports products."
Starting in February, Stella McCartney Adidas will go on sale in selected department stores in the United States, Japan and Europe.
