2004-Jun-17: Milestone

(Updated June 19) Sir Paul's concert in St. Petersburg, Russia's Palace Square on June 20th will be a milestone for Sir Paul. It will be his 3,000th live show. In a statement released today, Sir Paul exclaimed:

"I never keep count on the statistics, so I was amazed when people told me I’ll do my 3000th gig on this tour. That’s an awful lot of late nights! I guess I must just like the live life. But, as I've said before, it's what I do".

Here are the figures: (Sir Paul's management explains that this is just an estimate, of course, since no one was keeping track of his early performances with The Quarry Men and the Beatles). They begin the tally with his Beatles performances in the early 1960s (including Hamburg, live radio/TV performances, etc.) = 2,523. Add to this his 140 live performance with Wings, plus 325 appearances as a solo artist. This would bring the total to 2,988 when Sir Paul opened his European tour on May 25th. Based on these figures, his St. Petersburg concert will mark his 3,000th live performance.

Congratulations, Sir Paul!
