The St. Petersburg Conservatoire announced today that Sir Paul has been invited to return to Russia in the autumn to receive his honorary doctorate. Sir Paul was awarded the title certificate during his visit to the Conservatoire last May. (See May 21, 2003) According to the head of the Conservatoire, Sergei Roldugin, the ceremony will not take place during Sir Paul's Russian visit this month. The mantle will be awarded during a separate ceremony:
“This event traditionally takes place at the Conservatoire on each anniversary of its foundation – September 20. After preliminary negotiations, Sir Paul McCartney has received an invitation to this event.”
Sir Paul will arrive in St. Petersburg on June 18 and perform in the Palace Square on June 20.
