Sir Paul appeared on the CBS Early Show this morning telling correspondent Hattie Kauffman that his new DVD is not a rock 'n' roll concert:
"Not this time, no - and you're right, because people who know me for another thing – live music, rock 'n' roll or whatever – some people were saying to me, 'What were you on when you wrote that, man?' … I said, 'No, it's just for kids!'"
He joked about why he provided the voices of most of his cartoon characters:
"I'm cheap. I don't cost as much as other people."
He really just likes to do voices. He even uses them at home:
"Yeah, I do. I'm a voice nut. You know, I just like to do that."
He provided all of the voices, however. The voice of the character, Wilamena, is that of Linda McCartney. Sadly, Linda never say the finished project:
"She saw the Rupert piece. That was done, but she didn't get to see the others. They were made just after I'd lost her. Her passion was one of the reasons these films got made, so it seemed like the right thing to do."
The films carry Linda's message: Be kind to animals. Linda wasn't afraid to pick up a frog, he said, "it was cute. It's a cute frog." Is that why all three stories have frogs in them?
"That wasn't intentional -showing this fascination for frogs, for some unknown reason. I'm currently seeing a frog therapist. He's great. He's big, green, poppy eyes – great guy!"
So, at 60-plus, Sir Paul still loves to perform:
" I get to play to these beautiful audiences who give this fantastic feedback, so I love it. I'm not jaded at all. And, as you say, I'm very lucky because I get to explore other projects like the animation… Well, I just love it. I was quite imaginative as a kid. Probably should have concentrated a bit more in school. That was always on my report: 'Could do better, if he'd concentrate.' Ha ha!"
