2004-Jan-16: Wanted for Questioning?

The news wires are reporting that London police wish to question Sir Paul about his alleged scuffle with an Evening Standard photographer during his visit to the Tower Bridge to see the illusionist David Blaine perform his endurance stunt last September (see September 19). The police claim such questioning is a routine matter. They need to speak to Sir Paul to determine if the allegation merits further action.

Sir Paul's spokesman, Geoff Baker, has dismissed these reports saying that the police have not tried to contact Sir Paul's office about the incident. Further, Mr. Baker continues to deny that any assault ever took place. Mr. Baker claims that insulting a photographer does not constitute an assault.

Sir Paul seems to attract the attention of police on this particular date. It was on January 16, 1980 that Sir Paul was arrested in Tokyo after customs agents found marijuana in his luggage. Again, on January 16, 1984 there was another marijuana possession incident in Barbados. According to Mr. Baker, this January 16 Sir Paul is on holiday and cannot be reached for comment.
